Martin commenced his accountancy career in 1995 as a trainee with Volans Leach & Schofield, a long established independent practice based in Leeds. He qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2000 and ultimately became a partner and co-owner of Volans Leach & Schofield between 2007 and 2021.

Martin joined Armstrong Watson LLP in June 2021 where he was an accounting partner based in the Leeds office – a role which allowed him to develop his existing skills and knowledge within a larger independent firm.

With almost 30 years of practice experience behind him, Martin has dealt with clients from many different sectors and through working closely with them, has become the first port of call for most problems. Despite the partner title, Martin is both approachable and eager to get into the detail to fully understand what clients require.

Martin joined G L Barker & Co LLP on 01 October 2024 and is reunited with Graeme Greenfield whom he briefly worked alongside at Volans Leach & Schofield. As a true Yorkshireman, he still remembers Graeme’s promise of a pint having balanced a particularly challenging bank as a trainee and will now ensure that Graeme remains good to his word!

Outside of work, Martin is married to Emma and is the proud father of Millie and Jacob. He is also the non-canine father to Skye who is a rather energetic cocker spaniel. When not providing a taxi service to either netball or football, he is a long standing (and suffering) Leeds United season ticket holder. Martin has an extensive taste in music and has attended countless concerts over the years at venues throughout the UK. And just in case he has any spare time, Martin can always fill it by taking Skye for a walk (or is that the other way around!)
